PSP leads the way in specialist neuro rehab treatment and spasticity management. It’s this expertise that made them the perfect addition to the handl Group’s Health and Wellbeing division.
Growth is the goal for handl Group, and the surest way to grow is to offer leading specialist services of the highest quality. While we’ve funded start-ups, we’re always on the lookout for well-established, successful organisations that can add their skillsets to our own.
Paediatric Specialist Physiotherapy (PSP) is one such organisation. Widely recognised as experts in the field of neuro rehab treatment and spasticity management, PSP could add a new range of services to our growing Health and Wellbeing division – while helping the company’s clinical director achieve his goals.
PSP’s Goals
Peter Sanderson isn’t shy about the success PSP – and his other company Osiris Health – has achieved in the field of neuro rehab treatment. He’d built a reputation for excellence, but was finding that there were limits to what he could achieve alone. At the same time, handl Group’s Dan Franklin was looking for a new specialist provider to add to our Health and Wellbeing division. The timing worked out perfectly, as Peter explains:
“It was Dan who came to me with an offer. At the time, I’d reached a ceiling. We’d achieved something great, but I knew we could do even more. I just didn’t have enough hours in the day.”
“I wouldn’t have entertained any offers that didn’t agree that the patient care we delivered wasn’t compromised, or that my team wouldn’t be touched. That was what handl Group offered. A great chance to be part of something larger and to build on what had come before. Their core values really resonated with me – as did their straight talking approach to the whole acquisition.”
The Acquisition – 2024
The acquisition of PSP and Osiris Health was finalised in 2024, and the straight-forward, frank approach to business that won Peter over in the first place continued throughout the whole process. As did a commitment to supporting his staff and patients.
“The whole transition was fantastic. handl Group shared my commitment to evidence-based patient care, and weren’t going to make any changes for the sake of it. Their advice and input was more around developing new structures and creating new opportunities for my staff.”
It’s all about keeping the focus on the people who matter most. handl Group wanted to acquire a company with a great reputation, and Peter had built PSP and Osiris Health’s reputation on quality care. With that in mind, patients had to remain central throughout the acquisition process:
“Everything we do is about supporting patients. So everything handl Group did had to play into that. We weren’t pushed to change our ethos or the human values that help us do our work – the group shared and supported them. What they did do was provide the support needed to help us establish a solid foundation for more growth and more holistic care for patients.”
PSP and Osiris Health’s Present – and Future
While it’s not been too long since the acquisition was finalised, Peter has been encouraged by handl Group’s willingness to stick to their word and provide the support he knew would take his businesses to a whole new level.
“I’ve always been frank with Dan and the board from day one. I had my red lines. We can’t compromise on care, and I won’t risk the livelihoods of my team. They’ve kept their word. I’m still a part of the team as a director and shareholder, although I don’t need to run PSP day in and day out, but I’m close enough to my staff to know that everyone is happy with the way things are going.”
And what about the future? Where does Peter see PSP and Osiris Health going as part of handl Group?:
“Things are incredibly clear to me. I can focus my efforts where they’ll do the most good for patients, confident in the team of experts that’s in place. Everyone is prepared to do the work to make this a success.”
