It’s a rhetorical question, but we can actually put a number on how far we’d go.
Three numbers in fact.
23 miles by foot, 462 miles by road and 10,052 feet in elevation.
If they seem like oddly specific numbers, it’s because they are.
They’re the numbers for the National Three Peaks challenge – a gruelling test of commitment and stamina, and a chance for us to get out and enjoy the fresh air and warm breezes of the balmy British autumn.
On September 27 and 28, twenty five brave hikers from across handl Group will scale Wales’ Yr Wyddfa (aka Snowdon), England’s Scafell Pike and Scotland’s Ben Nevis.
That’s a combined height of over 10,000 feet, and a walking distance just short of a marathon, to be completed in a single weekend
And it gets even tougher.
With just 24 hours to complete our task, we’ll have just 4 hours to climb Ben Nevis, 4 hours for Scafell Pike, another 4 for Yr Wyddfa, and travel for 11 hours between the peaks. That doesn’t leave much room for error.
Just 40% of participants complete the challenge within 24 hours. Only 90% finish at all. So it’s not a sightseeing trip. And it’s definitely not an easy task.
But then neither’s helping people with cancer like the wonderful support teams at Maggie’s, or protecting vulnerable children and teenagers around the country like the tireless trustees and volunteers of The Children’s Society. But they go out there every day and put in the hardest of yards for the people who need them – so it’s only fair that we do the same in return.
But we need your support.
We’re not asking you to move mountains. We’re not even asking you to climb them with us (unless you’re one of the 25 brave volunteers). We’re just asking for your donations to make a real difference to these two amazing charities.
You can specify your donation to help either – or both – charities, and take our minds off the blisters. We’d love it if you supported us.
